FAQ
What does a treadwear rating of Under 200 mean?
Treadwear is the maker's rating of wear against the government's control tire, which is graded 100; a grade of 200 means the tire is rated to wear twice as slowly on the test course. For Under 200 that works out to less than twice as slowly (our arithmetic). It is not a mileage figure and varies with driving, vehicle and maintenance.
How many tire lines have treadwear Under 200?
160 lines in the NHTSA file we downloaded on 2026-10-25, by median grade. That is 5.3% of 3,020 rated lines.
Which brand has the most lines in the Under 200 band?
Bridgestone (32 lines), followed by Vercelli (19). Counting lines is not a ranking of quality or popularity.
