Tires by category
How this works: NHTSA’s UTQG data has no “tire type” field. We sort lines into a category only when the product name says so (for example “A/S”, “Touring”, “HP”, “A/T”, “H/T”). That is honest but incomplete: most lines carry no marker, and a line without one is not “not all-season”. Winter tires are outside UTQG, so there is no winter category (why).
| Category | Name markers | Lines | Share of rated lines | Median treadwear |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All-season | A/S, AS, "All Season" | 269 | 8.9% | 500 |
| Touring | "Touring", "Tour" | 291 | 9.6% | 520 |
| Performance | HP, H/P, UHP, "Performance" | 71 | 2.4% | 420 |
| All-terrain | A/T, AT, "All Terrain" | 152 | 5% | 500 |
| Highway-terrain | H/T, HT, "Highway" | 96 | 3.2% | 500 |
A line can match more than one marker. Out of 3,020 rated lines.
